A while ago I went through Priscilla Shirer’s study on The Armor of God. It completely rocked my world.
If you haven’t done this study, please put it on your bucket list.
Priscilla explained that there is a constant battle going on around us. We know the outcome from reading Revelation but the enemy is fighting hard to fill our minds with lies, doubt, and questions.
The Battle is Real
While modern technology has made tasks easier, the 21st century has not been kind to women. There is more pressure than ever for us to be the perfect woman, wife, and mother. This is not a mistake on Satan’s part. He knows that if he can cause us to take our eyes off Jesus, just like Peter, we will become overwhelmed with the swirling waters around us. Soon fear, inadequacy, and stress will take over crippling our ability to love on those around us.
Priscilla explains the enemy’s goals like this…
Satan knows that he cannot destroy you [if you have given your life to Christ]. Too late for that. The best he can do (and he intends to make full use of it) is to make your time on earth futile and unproductive, to suffocate you with sin, insecurity, fear, and discouragement until you are unable to life freely and fully. He can’t “unseat” you, but he can intimidate you and render you ineffective and paralyzed.
Fight in the Battle
If the battle is a given, how do we stand strong?
We arm yourself each day with the Armor of God.
That means daily picking up our Bibles, prayer journals, and our favorite pens for daily quiet time with God.
It means daily filling our minds with truth.
It means not forsaking meeting with other Christians so that we aren’t fighting alone.
It means taking the opportunity to share the Gospel with those who have not heard.
It means not worry about the swirling water around us and replacing the fear with truth of who God is and what God has done in our lives.
It means replacing the lies the world puts on us and remembering how God sees us.
And then… “With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18
