Today’s post is taking a side road from our Family Vacation 101 blog series to share one of our favorite homemade snacks. One being perfect for Road Trips.
Without a doubt our favorites are Homemade Granola Bars and Yummy Snack Mix. Both are protein-packed. Nutritious. Filling. Each bite is sheer yumminess. And, super easy to make.
Since I have already shared the recipe and images for Homemade Granola Bars, today I want to focus on Snack Mix. It is a wonderful afternoon snack or great for road trips. One huge perk is that you can add the ingredients your family likes and skip the ones they don’t. As long as your favorite ingredient isn’t a liquid or perishable, you almost can’t go wrong.
Below I have shared a plethora of options to choose from. So grab your favorite large bowl and get pouring! Don’t forget to get your kids involved as this is a recipe they can do themselves.
Yummy Snack Mix Optional Ingredients
- Candy – M&M’s (plain and peanut), Candy Corn
- Nuts – Peanuts, Almonds, Sunflower seeds
- Chips – Pretzels, Goldfish, Bugles
- Dry Cereal – Chex Mix, Alphabet Cereal, Cheerios, Fruit Loops
- Dried Fruit – Raisins, Cranberries, Yogurt Covered Fruit
- Marshmallows
- Crackers – Teddy Grahams, Mini Ritz
- Chips – Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Butterscotch
Pick the ingredients you like (and are age appropriate) and combine. Store in an air-tight container and scoop out cup fulls as needed. Or, put in snack ziptop bags for individual sized portions making them easy to grab. (Wash and use the bags over and over.)
Warning: Allergy and Choking Warning
Because the ingredients are not messy, Yummy Snack Mix is perfect for the car or eating in places where a mess could be strenuous.
